Ask Buck: Why do you want to be a pastor?

I want to be a pastor because I feel a deep calling to serve God and His people in a more comprehensive and dedicated way. Throughout my life, I’ve experienced God’s transformative power firsthand – from my own conversion at 14 to witnessing the spiritual transformation of my family. These experiences have instilled in me a passion for helping others connect or reconnect with Christ and become lifelong disciples.

My journey through various life challenges has given me a unique perspective on the struggles many people face. I believe these experiences have equipped me to provide empathetic pastoral care and counseling to those going through difficult times.

I’ve served in various lay leadership roles in churches for over 30 years, and I feel that transitioning into full-time ministry as a pastor is the natural next step in my spiritual journey. I want to use my gifts in teaching, discipleship, and leadership to support and grow a vibrant church community.

My vision is to foster an environment where people can regularly experience God through His Word and Spirit, emphasizing authentic discipleship that includes equipping, encouraging, empowering, and releasing individuals to move boldly in their gifts. I believe that as a pastor, I can play a crucial role in creating such an environment and guiding others in their spiritual growth.

Ultimately, I want to help train, equip, empower, and release people to become disciples who make disciples. I see the role of a pastor as coming alongside people and the church to help them connect or reconnect with Christ and live out their God-given potential. This aligns perfectly with my personal mission and the calling I feel God has placed on my life.
