3 Part Teaching Guide on Ways, Words, Works of Jesus
The Ways of Jesus
This refers to how Jesus lived—His rhythms, values, and practices. This includes things like solitude, prayer, Sabbath, hospitality, compassion, submission to the Father, and living in the power of the Spirit.
“Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.”
— 1 John 2:6 (ESV)
The Words of Jesus
This refers to what Jesus taught—His truths, commands, parables, and promises. As His disciples, we are called to believe, internalize, and obey His teachings.
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.”
— Matthew 24:35 (ESV)
“If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples.”
— John 8:31 (ESV)
The Works of Jesus
This refers to what Jesus did—healing the sick, casting out demons, preaching the gospel, making disciples, and serving the poor. It also includes the invitation to continue His mission by the power of the Spirit.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do…”
— John 14:12 (ESV)
“As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”
— John 20:21 (ESV)
Living into the Ways, Words, and Works of Jesus is what it means to be an apprentice of Christ—to be with Jesus, become like Him, and do what He did.
